Second International Music Festival of Trujillo

A very warm welcome to the II International Music Festival of Trujillo.

After a very successful first edition, it is my pleasure to continue to work in the consolidation of this valuable event, which will feature the well-known Soloists of London along with new young faces and new aims which I will present in the following lines. As last year, we are fortunate to be able to present this musical selection that goes through more than 200 years in the marvellous cloisters of the Palacio de los Duques de San Carlos.

This year we have four special evenings beginning with music from the period of "La Pepa",1812 performed by the "Orquesta Joven del Bicentenario", composed of 50 of the most talented young musicians from the province of Cádiz and beyond. The following three evenings in the intimate surroundings of the palace will include Vivaldi's "Seasons" in a baroque programme, Gala lirica with Spain's most famous soprano Pilar Jurado and the fantastic young violin talent, Leticia Moreno in "Mozart through the ages" all supported alongside The Soloists of London, reknowned and established British musicians, members of orchestras such as London Symphony Orchestra or Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. In the final evening we will be joined by special guest musicians to present the Orchestra of the International Music Festival of Trujillo.

If you enjoyed the first edition, you are invited to come back for more! If this is news to you, we highly recommend you to witness a feast of music making promising to become an essential part of the summer cultural calendar in Extremadura. We very much look forward to sharing this experience with you!

The finest international clasical music artists

THE SOLOISTS OF LONDON

The Soloists of London is one of Great Britain’s finest ensembles.  Eleven hand-picked string players from some of the world’s most famous orchestras:  The London Philharmonic Orchestra, The Academy of St Martins-in-the-Fields and The English Chamber Orchestra.
Passionate about Chamber Music, these flexible musicians have performed works from the sixteenth century to the present day, working together in perfect harmony, whilst standing to perform freely without the presence of a conductor. Between them collaborating with artists as diverse as Madonna, Pavarotti, Sting, José Carreras, Barbara Hendrix, Diana Ross and Sir Paul McCartney of ‘The Beatles’, to concerts performed in front of the late Pope John Paul II, the Queen Sofia of Spain and Queen Elizabeth II and recordings from Oscar-winning soundtracks ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘Harry Potter’ to music for television and radio in many countries. www.thesoloistsoflondon.com

Trujillo, the Heart of Extremadura - A delight for the senses

Trujillo is an open, luminous, comfortable, well-planned and peaceable city that transmits a certain feeling of the well-being of the medieval Spanish hidalgo. It is, as it has always been, a central meeting point for races and cultures, built onto the "Cabezo de Zorro" hill from where it dominates the plain below delimited by the Tajo and Guadiana rivers.

Upon approaching Trujillo, the traveller feels as though he had encountered a medieval ship beached on a rocky hill. The city rises, proud and vigilant, over a surprising and beautiful granite protuberance, a very unusual crag, calling to mind a line from a Spanish folksong: "If you go to Trujillo, you'll find a league of crags wherever you enter".  Its towers and ruins trim themselves against the sky.

Trujillo is located in the highest part of a magnificent granite rock mass scattered over with holm and evergreen oaks. It is a beautiful medieval city, an obligatory stopover for visitors who wish to discover the history of this Extremaduran landscape.

The memories contained in its battlements, palaces, churches and ancient noble mansions have shaped this formerly unassailable landscape. It would not be strange, in fact, if the popular imagination had itself dreamt up the legend that the profile of the city had been carved into the rocky hill itself by a stonemason via some kind of magical art or portend.  If the legend is true, the mythical stonecutter must be said to have carried out his task with perfect skill, for Trujillo is clearly an example of harmony and adaptation to the rocky landscape: carved stone atop the rock itself.
